A rocket has a mass of 500 kg moves directly. What force needs to be applied to the rocket so that it accelarates at 2m/s [up]? provide for me the equation and how to solve this problem. Thanx alot.

  1. The magnitude of the resultant force that give the rocket that acceleretion is

    F = ma = 500 x 2 = 1000 N

    That force is the resultant of the thrust T and the weight mg, which are of opposite directions

    F = T - mg

    T = F + mg

    T = 1000 + 500x 9.8

    T = 1000 + 4900

    T = 5900 N
