Question:

Physical Exams for First Pregnancy? Who should we go to? What needs to be examined?

Hubby and I are planning on our first child in the next few months. Other than trying to relax and excercise and make sure we are at the best health before trying, we were recommended to do some physical exams before hand. When we asked the person what kind of physical exams we should be doing, we didn't get a direct answer.

We do have a doctor that we go to for general pratice, is there a specialist we should be going to? If so, who should we see?

And what types of exams should we be doing?

Any other suggestions? We are really lost!!

We are both in our mid 20s, btw, thanks!!!

  1. There are no specialists that you need to see...see your GP and get a clean bill of health if you want...start taking folic acid, then go at it.  They won't do any testing on you unless you have been trying for at least a year to get pregnant.

  2. Make an appointment with a OB/GYN doctor.  Then they can do some basic lab tests (blood draw).  I would also start taking Prenatal vitamins now so the folic acid will already be in your system.  You can buy prenatal vitamins over the counter at most stores including Wal-Mart.  Best of Luck!
