  1. Physical Anthropology deals with evolution and adaptation of human beings to their environment.  Also covers paleoanthropology and forensic anthropology.

Ron: Anthropology has four divisions 1. Social or Cultural Anthropology, 2. Biological or Physical Anthropology, 4. Archeology and 4. Linguistics

  2. The science of anthropology is often divided into two broad fields, physical and cultural.  Physical anthropology studies the anatomical and physiological features of groups of humans both in the present and in the past.  This helps us understand how humankind has evolved from the common ancestor with the great apes.  Cultural anthropology studies the social, economic, kinship, religious and other behavioral features of groups of people.

  3. I think it's the same as forensic anthropology. It is where you study ancient cultures using bones and pottery and whatnot.

  4. TJB gave a good brief description of Physical Anthropology although it does encompass more than what he wrote.  In the United States, anthropology is divided into four subfields (Physical, Cultural, Lingustic, and Archaeology) while in other places in the world, especially Europe, it is divided into two (Cultural and Physical).

Physical anthropology is the study of the physical and biological human.  This incorporates the study of human evolution from paleo beings to later hominids and what role culture played in human adaptation; primatology which is the study of humans' closest extant animal relative to get a better understanding of human adaptation; osteology and anatomy to understand how cultural, racial, and ethnicity play into the biological human; and forensic anthropology which isn't just about figuring out how people died, it is also about discovering clues of our past ancestors.
