i'm writing a short story for class and one of the main characters is a teenage boy with a disability or handicap of some kind, but i can't decide what. are there any that would work well in a story? the condition should have some but hopefully not too much impact on the character's mental facilities. in the story, he's able to tutor another boy that is considered "normal". are there any conditions that negatively affect the mind in some ways but not others? i'm trying to do research on this as well...thanks for any help!

  3. He could have Aspergers syndrome, a high-functioning type of autism. People with this type of Autism generally have very high IQ's. Generally, people with Aspergers syndrome have problems with social interaction and development.  You shuld do some research on Aspergers.

  4. Cerebral palsy would work well. Some people with it have intellectual disabilites or learning disabilities but not all. It depends on where the brain was affected.

What it does effect is the motor functions. And there are differing levels of disability in this condition depending on what part of the body is affected.

  5. Spina bifida would be a good one. Stay away from Duchanes and 1/3 are also mentally impaired. There are a million. You could have cerebal palsay.

  6. A wheelchair (birth defect and has no legs).
