A typical ten-pound car wheel has a moment of inertia of about 0.35 \; \rm kg\cdot m^2. The wheel rotates about the axle at a constant angular speed making 45.0 full revolutions in a time interval of 4.00 s.

1) What is the rotational kinetic energy K of the rotating wheel?

  1. KE = 0.5 I w^2

    I=0.35 kg m^2

    w = 45*2π/4 rad/sec

    KE = 0.5(0.35)(45*π/2)^2 Joules

    KE = 874.4 Joules
