  1. If you can't hear the sound, then you have to see how deep the well is, or you can feel it by touch.  If you smell a strong odor that has the source at the bottom you know it is not a deep well and that the depth is not deep or the well has no liquid in it to make the splash.

  2. Earth's natural gravity creates 9.8 m/s^2 as your acceleration.

    a=acceleration s=distance t=time v=velocity

    So you have a=9.8 m/s^2, and your change in time is 3.7 seconds.

    HINT: You will have to integrate the equation v=9.8t to get your distance equation.

    ***Try solving it on your own before reading on***

    V=a*t=9.8t m/s, so by integration you find that s (your distance) is 4.9t^2. [s=4.9t^2] plug and chug and you will get you're answer. s=67.081 meters (don't forget to reduce to whatever significant digits you have in the problem)

  3. gravity pulls the rock down at 9.83 m/(s*s)

    9.83 = m /  (3.7*3.7)

    3.7*3.7*9.83 is your answer. just put it into a calculator.

    However, since this is obviously a problem for a physics class, you must first find out your TEACHERS definition for gravity.

    Some teachers use 9.83, some use 9.82, and some use 9.8

    so G being gravity

    G * 3.7 * 3.7 is your answer.
