Does the change in speed of the downward-moving rock agree with the magnitude of the speed change of the rock moving upward between the same elevations? Explain physically why it does or does not agree.

  1. The speed of any particle at the same elevation whether it is going down or up is the same.

The only difference is that when the particle is going up it is slowing down (because it is going against gravity) while the same particle gains speed as it goes down (because gravity pulls it down).
