Physics. Is longitudinal wave a sound wave in a gas.....?

  1. Waves in a gas must be longitudinal because gases have zero shear strength and thus can't support a transverse (shear) wave.

    Light waves are transverse; the oscillating electric and magnetic vectors are perpendicular to each other and to the direction of propagation.
