From t=0 to t=5.00 min, a man stands still, and from t=5.00 min to t=10.0, he walks briskly in a straight line at a constant speed of 2.20m/s. What are (a) his average velocity Vavg and (b) his average acceleration a avg in the time interval 2.00 min to 8.00 min? What are(c) V avg and (d) a avg in the time interval 3.00 min to 9.00 min?

  1. 1. Average velocity: you have given no indication of direction, and since velocity implies direction, you cannot determine this. The average speed, of course, is 1.1 meters per second.

his average acceleration is 2.2meters per second per 10 minutess/10 minutes or 2.2 / (10 * 60) meters per second..

    2) Average acceleration in the time 2 - 8 minutes =

    2.2 / (6 * 60) meters per second per second.

    3) Average acceleration minutes 3 to 9 is the same as 2) above. Average speed is based on 2 minutes (1/3rd)  stationary and 4 minutes (2/3rds)  moving:  2/3 * 2.2 meters per second.
