the force between two charged spheres separated a distance r is given by the formula

F = q1q2/(4*pi*Eo*r^2)

where q1 and q2 are the respective charges in coulombs and e0 is the permittivity constant of space. the mks unit for charge is the coulomb(C). find the unit in which Eo is measured in the mks system.

a. coulomb-newton/meter

b. coulombs^2/newton-meter^2

c. newton-meters/coulomb^2

d. newton-meters^2/coulomb^2

e. Eo is dimensionless

10 points for d best answer...thanks!

  1. Okay...simply rearranging the equation to make Eo the subject:

    Eo=q1q2/(4*pi*F*r^2)

    the units on the right side are:

    coulomb*coulomb/(Newtons*m^2)

    = coulombs^2/Newton*m^2

    = option b.

  2. b. coulombs^2/newton-meter^2

    i am 100%sure look ill prove it

    F = q1q2/(4*pi*Eo*r^2)

    newton = coulombs^2 / meter^2-the thing that we dont know

    the thing that we dont know = coulombs^2 / newton-meter^2
