In a tug of war each team is applying equal force i.e. 200 N on rope so that it is in equilibrium What is tension on rope....

    Explanation: Take a small part of the rope just adjacent to one of the teams. There are two forces on this part. One is 200 N applied by the team. The other is tension in the opposite direction. The system is in equilibrium. Therefore, the two forces should balance each other.

    Therefore, tension = 200 N

    Why ?

    To understand this take the example of a rope tied to a stationary object. Now if I exert a force of 200N on it, then all of us accept that the tension on the rope is 200N.

    This is very similar to your question as in the above example the other team is represented by the stationary object which gives an equal and opposite reaction.
