  1. 12x - 5y = 27

    5x + 3y = 5

    multiply the first by 3 and the second by 5 and subtract

    36x - 15y = 27*3 = 81

    25x + 15y = 25

    61x = 106

    x = 106/61

    5(106/61) + 3y = 5

    530/61 +3y = 5

    3y = 5 - 530/61 = (305 - 530)/61 = -225/61

    y = -225 / 183
