I don't think this question fits the drawing below it. Therefore, I think this question is impossible. Please either help me figure this out or tell me if this question is impossible. Thanks.

  1. Looks like they reversed the numbers in the text. The object is 5 cm below the lens, and the image 13 cm below it, a typical reading-glass situation. When the image is on the same side of the lens as the object, its distance, by convention, is negative. So you have FL = 1/(1/do + 1/di)) = 1/(1/5 + 1/-13) = 8.125 cm and the image is magnified 2.6x.

    The opposite situation is possible (object at 13 cm, image at -5 cm), but that would involve a concave lens and a reduced image.
