you tell your friend that no machine can possibly put out more energy than is put into it, and your friend states that a nuclear reactor puts out more enrgy than is put into it. what would you say?

  1. Your friend is wrong.  The fuel you put in contains more nuclear potential energy than the spent fuel you take out.  The reactor converts the nuclear potential energy to other forms of energy.

    " in  system that does not interact with  the surrounding..."

    energy stays the same.

    in the case of nuclear reactor, ..it is pressurized.

  5. More energy went into to making the nuclear material than what you can extract from it, its just that you didn't have to make the nuclear fuel, it was already there.
