The photoelectric effect shows that for a metal surface irradiated with photons, if no electrons are released form the surface, then

a) the temperature of the surface must be increased

b) the work function of the surface must be increased

c) the wavelength of the photons must be increased

d) the frequency of the photons must be increased

e) the frequency of the photons must be decreased.

please help me with these questions, i have this question for chemistry, and it is not in my chemistry book.

  1. LOL, all these options certainly look confusing - I can understand your situation :-)

Answer is (d) as photoelectric effect depends on the frequency of the photons. Increasing the frequency of the photons will eventually allow them to gain enough energy to loosen up the electrons in the atomic orbits and knock them off into free electrons capable of conducting electricity
