A dog runs back and forth between its two owners, who are walking toward one another (Figure 2-28). The dog starts running when the owners are d = 10.0 m apart. If the dog runs with a speed of vd = 2.4 m/s, and the owners each walk with a speed of 1.3 m/s, how far has the dog traveled when the owners meet?

  1. Mate, this is your homework. **** off!

You even left the referance to a (Figure 2-28) in your question! We cant see that image can we.

  2. Figure out how much time the two owners spend walking toward each other. You can essentially treat one as stationary and the other as walking 2.6 m/s towards him (2 times 1.3). With this velocity, how many seconds will it take for the walking owner to close the 10 m gap?

Now that you know how much time it took for the two owners to meet, you can figure out how far the dog traveled by multiplying his speed by the time he spent running.
