a motorist drives north for 35 minutes at 85km/h and then stops for 15mins. He then continues north traveling to 130km in 2 hrs. A) what is his total displacement? b) what is the average velocity?

  1. Total displacement is how far he travelled

    distance = speed * time

    d = 35/60*85 + 2*130

    = 309.58333333333..... km

    average velocity here = total distance / total time

    = 309.58333333333 / (35/60 + 15/60 + 2)

    = 309.58333333333 /  2.833333...

    = 109.2647 km / hr (3dp)
