im doing a physics assignment in class and i think i need a little help, i have to play the part of somebody who is a member for the environment and against changing to nuclear power. (P.S this is yr11 studies so i need details not primary school answers.. =) thanks)

1. Why do nuclear plants increase the temperature of the ocean and the effect on the marnine life?

2. what other types pollutions do nuclear power plants produce?

3. a process on how the people should proceed when changing to nuclear power?

4. What are major problems about nuclear power??

Thanks this will help me A LOT!

=)

  1. you should know about nuclear plant and process .

in this process ,for decrease water temperature they use water sea or river that is named cooling system.

tempreture of system in river or sea is between 100 c to 200c or 300c.so this make water sea warmer.

    so

    1. cooling system

    2. as I said  termal pollution- radio activity - what is remaind after process that have radio activity problem too.

    3. it is usual that people make and made proceed themself to this power and another. this is tallent of people.

4.radio activity and when is exploded

    i hope that I could help u

  2. 1)Nuclear power uses methods like controlled nuclear reaction, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion and radioactive decay to extract energy. All current methods involve heating a working fluid such as water, which is then converted into mechanical work for the purpose of generating electricity or propulsion.so u need lot of water to do this and there is no better place than ocean.

2)Since "pollution" is stuff you don't want in a place where you don't want it then the answer is pretty much "none". Nuclear reactors produce several tons of spent fuel each year which is highly radioactive but it is kept under tight controls as the radioactivity decays and the spent fuel cools thus it isn't "pollution" in this sense because it doesn't get out where you don't want it.

Nuclear plants do discharge slightly warmer water than they intake which could be described as pollution if it were shown to harm the environment. Generally, the local animals appreciate the warmer water.

4)Although nuclear power plants have many advantages, they have some major problems. If anything were ever to go wrong inside the reactor, the results could be disasterous. One of the most dangerous difficulties is the possibility of a nuclear meltdown. This occurs when the core overheats in an uncontrolled manner -- the core simply melts. Such an event would release amazing amounts of radioactivity. There are many emergency cooling systems and back-ups to prevent the reactor from getting to meltdown temperatures.

One problem that was not stopped was the incident at Chernobyl. The Chernobyl plant reached 150 times its normal power level. The pressure inside the water holding tubes there became so great that finally the plant just blew itself apart. Poor construction and operation of the power plant caused the disaster. The disaster killed 31 people and 20 square miles of land are now uninhabitable. Some people say that the Chernobyl accident is responsible for many cases of cancer all across Europe. The scientists and environmentalists fighting against nuclear power, use accidents like these as their argument.
