Pi Hongyan beats Belaetrix Manuputi to enter into Women’s Singles final: Indonesia Open GP Gold
World Number 24 ranked shuttler, Pi Hongyan of France reserved her seat in the Women’s Singles final after beating Indonesia’s passionate shuttler, Belaetrix Manuputi in the semi-final contest of the 2011 Indonesia Open GP Gold, at East Kalimantan, Indonesia,
on Saturday, October1.
The first set of the Women’s Singles battle was a nightmare for the higher ranked French lady, as the Indonesian played terrific badminton in the opening half of the set and established an incredible gap of 11-3 until the break.
Hongyan completely failed to stop the aggression of her opponent and was struggling to find smooth movement in the court.
After the break, the Indonesian continued her roller-coaster performance against the shaky French shuttler, who lost the opening set by a margin of 21-14 in just 17 minutes. Hongyan had no answer to the attacking and accurate play of her Indonesian rival,
who was being cheered by the home crowd for her impressive play.
Stung by the loss in the first game, the French shuttler played different badminton in the second set and set up a gap of 11-6 until the break. After the interval, Manuputi played an accurate game and reduced the difference by reaching at 14-15. However,
the French controlled the pace and won the second game by a 21-17 margin in 25 minutes.
In the final game, Manuputi paced up the rallies by pushing her challenger in all corners of the court. Until the interval, the Indonesian was in a strong position as she reached at 11-8. However, Hongyan levelled the score by playing to her maximum potential
after the break and levelled the score at 12-12.
The Indonesian was leading the game by a margin of 18-15, when the French changed her tactics and scored five consecutive points to reach at 20-18. Hongyan finished-off the final set by the score of 21-19 in 31 minutes. Hongyan won the three-set battle in
73 minutes with the score of 14-21, 21-17 and 21-19.
In the final showdown, Hongyan will take on the winner of the second semi-final between Japan’s Ai Goto and China’s Xiao Jia Chen.
