Pi Hongyan leaves China for France to play badminton at international level – Badminton News
Chinese born, Pi Hongyan, has left China for France to play professional badminton at the international level. She represents France in all major events throughout the world in the category of Women’s Singles.
After winning her fight against Ukraine’s Larisa Griga in straight-sets in the group match of the Sudirman Cup 2011, in China, on Wednesday, Pi Said, “Every time I come back to China I feel very happy because people cheer for me.”
The 32-year-old has been representing China in the past, but failed to enter in the national squad of senior shuttlers. Then she decided to leave China to continue her professional game and came to France, where she was cordially accepted. Now, she is a
major player in the national squad of France.
Pi expressed that she took the right decision at that time to leave China, as she wanted to participate in international events and it was not possible for her to fulfil this desire by remaining in China.
Pi said, “I never regret the decision that I made because I knew I had no chance in China. If I had stayed in China I would have just had a baby now and I would be doing some other job. I think I'm lucky to be able to continue to play badminton in France.”
The shuttler says that China has a huge number of talented players, as the country has a very rich culture of badminton and it becomes very hard for Chinese players to get in the national team.
Pi added, “I was not good enough in China and the national team didn't want me to stay, so that's why I left.”
Pi is currently placed at the 25th spot in the Women’s Singles world rankings conducted by the badminton World Federation. She has been doing well for the last few years in different international events.
Pi is currently playing in the Sudirman Cup, which is the most prestigious mixed team tournament in which 33 countries from all around the world are participating.
