Pia Zebadiah, Rizki Amelia claim the Women’s Doubles crown in 2013 Malaysia GP Gold
Women’s Doubles team Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth-Rizki Amelia Pradipta of Indonesia remained invincible in the final round of Yonex Sunrise Malaysia Grand Prix Gold and earned a top spot on the victory stand on May 4, 2013.
This title match pit them against Aprilsasi Putri Lejarsar Variella-Vita Marissa and their meeting lasted for 54 minutes.
The Indonesian team ruled the court in the opening and ending segments of the showdown with 21-17 and 21-17 whereas the opposing team could pocket only the second match point with 21-16 margin.
Pia and Rizki took some time to read their rivals’ game and this sluggishness allowed the other finalist duo to establish a decent lead on points table.
Aprilsasi Putri and Vita Marissa kept on moving forward at steady pace but then few back-to-back mistakes put their expedition to halt.
Meanwhile, the twosome of Pia and Rizki capitalised the opposing team’s blunders and placed a favourable total of 11.
After the mid-game break, the Indonesian players played with great precision and enjoyed an upper hand all the way to final moments.
They swept the table with an overwhelming score of 21-17 and started second set with a psychological edge.
However, story was entirely different in the following game as this time it was the opposing duo’s turn to rule the court.
Aprilsasi Putri and Vita Marissa did not show any sign of confusion and gained a significant advantage in no time. They maintained that difference until the half time and put a respectable total of 11.
After the one-minute break, they prevailed in couple of consecutive rallies and strengthened their grip. This lead helped them in third quarter of the set and they won this crucial game with an impressive result of 21-16.
The decider became crucial for both contenders as they were standing equal in match score position.
Both Women’s Doubles teams made every effort to gain an initial advantage but neither of them could enjoy a permanent lead.
Finally, this cliff-hanging tussle reached to its climax when the Indonesian shuttlers registered a winning figure of 21-17.
With this win, Pia and Rizki earned the right to raise trophy of 2013 Malaysia Open GP Gold.
