Women’s Doubles experts Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth-Rizki Amelia Pradipta touched new heights in the arena as they secured the top spot on the victory stand in Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP on August 26, 2012.
The spirited Indonesian shuttlers stunned their higher ranked rivals h*i Ern Ng-h*i Lin Ng in just two games and claimed this Grand Prix title.
This final battle prolonged to 40 minutes and both teams kept the audience glued to their chairs while piling up concluding figures of 21-17 and 21-19.
Though, this encounter remained in full swing for just two games but still there were lots of twists and turns for both contenders in their way to glory.
The opening game set the overall tempo of the match as at one stage the Malaysian ladies were in a strong position to end this set in a favourable manner but then the opposing team showed transformed character and saved some honour.
Pia Zebadiah and Rizki Amelia took some time to read their rivals’ game and it really jeopardised their stakes.
However, the Indonesian campaigners did not take much time to come out of this phase and turned the tables with a staggering knock in the final moments.
They, despite trailing behind in the first half, did not allow their competitors to gain a permanent lead and stayed close on the points table.
They picked up some pace in the third quarter of the set and left the opposing team far behind with the score-board flashing 21-17 margin in their favour.
The World Number 35 duo h*i Ern-h*i Lin could not withstand this severe blow and fell flat on their face in the following game.
Meanwhile, Pia Zebadiah and Rizki Amelia capitalised their early advantage and locked the honour in a splendid manner.
They kick-started their campaign by prevailing in a few uninterrupted rallies and strengthened their grip with a couple of successive points before the interval.
After one-minute break, the twosome of h*i Ern and h*i Lin showed some spark and challenged their opponents’ supremacy.
They mounted pressure by narrowing the gap in the final stage but this short campaign did not make any significant difference as the Indonesian girls struck hard and sealed their victory with a decisive result of 21-19.
