Pia Zebadiah, Rizki Amelia tread into final round of 2012 Vietnam Open GP – Badminton News
Indonesia’s Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth and Rizki Amelia Pradipta showed superb coordination and escorted their country to the final round of Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP on August 25, 2012.
The sixth seeded pair outclassed Yu Chin Chien-Ti Jung Wu of Chinese Taipei to reserve the right to play in the title match of this Grand Prix tournament.
This Women’s Doubles semi-final encounter lasted for 35 minutes before ending with final figures of 21-18 and 21-18.
Pia Zebadiah and Rizki Amelia played their given roles to perfection and alarmed h*i Ern Ng-h*i Lin Ng, the other finalist team, by registering a straight-set victory.
Meanwhile, the Taipei campaigners made every effort to save some honour but luck was not on their side and they had to bid farewell to the event.
First sign of trouble came for them when they squandered the initial advantage by slipping in a couple of back-to-back rallies.
The twosome of Chin Chien and Jung Wu could not come out of this deficit throughout the first half and allowed their challengers to place a mountainous total of 11.
However, they switched on their best in the later part of the game and challenged their opponents’ supremacy.
At one stage, it felt that they will easily pocket the opening match point but then Pia Zebadiah-Rizki Amelia turned their plans into dust with a staggering knock of 21-18.
This emphatic end of the first set brought more thrill to the contest and both teams made the crowd gasp with their breath-taking performance in the following game.
They chased each other until last shot was played and neither team could gain a permanent lead.
The Taipei shuttlers left no margin for errors as they were looking to avoid a straight-set defeat. They started their campaign with an intensive invasion and pushed their competitors on the back-foot.
Though, the Indonesian players were not prepared for this brisk attack but still they managed to stand tall to their stature.
The twosome of Pia Zebadiah and Rizki Amelia launched an effective counter-attack strategy and finished the first half with a figure of 11.
They did not lose this touch in the second half and served notice of their supremacy with 21-18 margin.
