Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth, Rizki Amelia Pradipta gain access to Dutch Open quarter-finals
Indonesia’s spirited shuttlers Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth and Rizki Amelia Pradipta forged a fruitful chemistry and secured a quarter-final berth in Yonex Dutch Open on October 11, 2012.
This 31-minute Women’s Doubles encounter put them against the British duo Lauren Smith-Gabrielle White and they passed this tough trial with a distinctive result of 21-17 and 21-14.
Now they will put their badminton skills to the test against Heather Olver-Kate Robertshaw and win will take them into semi-finals of the tournament.
The twosome of Pia Zebadiah and Rizki Amelia were bit sluggish in the beginning as they could not move swiftly across the court and dropped many valuable points.
They kept trailing behind their opponents in most part of the game but third quarter of the set proved to be the most productive segment for them.
In the first half, the Indonesian campaigners found themselves in trouble when Lauren Smith and Gabrielle White snatched a couple of successive points from them.
The British duo capitalised this initial advantage and mounted pressure by registering 8-4 score on the board. They did not drop this pace and placed a notable margin of 11-7 at half time.
However, they could not go with same flow in later part of the game and allowed the opposing shuttlers to bounce back.
Pia Zebadiah and Rizki Amelia did not fritter away this opportunity and counter-balanced the situation in a splendid manner.
At first, they caught their competitors at 14-14 and then established a respectable lead in third quarter of the set. This timely development helped them to pocket first match point with a significant total of 21-17.
The second set was played in similar fashion as the losing team of previous game played their heart out to avoid a woeful exit but the Indonesian shuttlers proved tough nuts to crack.
Pia Zebadiah and Rizki Amelia made their intentions clear by unleashing a series of well placed strokes which took them to a commanding position of 8-5.
They ended first half of the set 11-5 and then served notice of their supremacy by putting an overwhelming score of 21-14.
This win has increased their responsibility as the supporters are expecting them to escort the country to the grand finale.
