Piaget Black wins consolation match of ‘The Memorial by Piaget’ Cup - Part 2
In the second instalment of the two-part series of the round-robin consolation match of ‘The Memorial by Piaget’ tournament, we will discuss the games between Pony Express versus Piaget White and Piaget Black. In the previous part, we briefly discussed the
contest between Pony Express and Piaget Black that concluded at a 3-3 draw.
Pony Express trounces Piaget White, 5-2
In the second game of the round-robin, Pony Express took Piaget White down by a commanding three-goal advantage, 5-2. It was quite a one-sided contest where the Pony Express team dominated the field throughout the match.
Pony Express’s Ruben Gracida notched a couple of goals at the start of the game while Nic Roldan answered a goal from Piaget White. The opening chukka was completed with Pony Express sitting on top by a solitary goal, 2-1.
In the second period, Goti scored a goal, but it was again countered from Nic Roldan to conclude the period at 3-2.
In the final set of play, Bob Daniels and Goti scored one goal each, while the team held Piaget goal-less in the period and lost the game by three goals, 5-2.
Tomas Goti scored a couple of goals while Bob Daniels added a single goal in the triumph. From the other side, Roldan scored the two goals in the loss.
Piaget Black thrash Piaget White 7-3
In the last match of the round-robin, Piaget Black thrashed Piaget White by a convincing four-goal margin, 7-3 and won the consolation match.
In the first set of play, Roldan scored a couple of goals of which one came on a spot-shot while other from the field. However, the opponents were not sitting silently and watching the game go by. Sugar Erskine nailed a pair of goals to close-out the chukka
with both sides locking horns at 2-2.
The second period was completely belonged to Piaget Black, which obtained four goals while holding Piaget White score-less. Marc Ganzi managed two goals besides single efforts from Lucas Lalor and Gene Goldstein. Piaget White was ahead with four points,
with one chukka left to play.
Roldan cranked up his offence and scored a goal in an attempt to bring the team back into the game. However, Goldstein marked a classical goal of the contest to seal the 7-3 victory. Piaget Black had a better goal scoring rate thus selected winner of the
round robin consolation contest.
Sugar Erskine, Marc Ganzi and Gene Goldstein scored two goals apiece, while Lucas Lalor added one goal in the victory. From the other side, Nic Roldan managed all three goals in the losing effort.
The final between Hawks and Santa Clara will be played on May 30, 2011 at the Grand Champions Polo Club.
