Piaget defeat Audi to lift Polo Gear-RoxWorld TV Invitational: Polo Recap
Walter Scherb lit the lamp five times and had an assist, as Piaget notched a 9-4 victory over Audi to lift the title of the Polo Gear-RoxWorld TV Invitational, held at the Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington, Florida.
The Piaget team had powerful punches in the opening period, wrapped up some points from Lucas Lalor and Marc Ganzi in the second and third chukkas, and held the lead in the final set of play to conclude the long trip with a triumph.
The players from Piaget started scoring from the very early minutes. Lucas Lalor and Marc Ganzi scored the opening goals to put Piaget ahead onto the score-board. In a counter-offence, Mellissa Ganzi notched a solitary goal and cut the lead down to a single
point. The opening period was concluded with Piaget holding a one-goal edge, 2-1.
In the second frame, the Piaget players continued to dominate the field with the ball possession and scored two goals while holding opponent only for a single point. Scherb and Lalor added one goal apiece in the seven and half minute of play while Hector
Galindo managed it the solitary point for Audi. At the end of the second chukka, Audi was trailing by two goals, 4-2.
The third chukka completely belonged to Piaget, as it earned a single goal while their resilient defence kept Audi off the score-board throughout the period. Scherb chipped in the single goal to close out the first half of play with Piaget sitting on top
by three goals, 5-2.
Interestingly, both the teams remained score-less in the fourth set of play owing to stiff defence from the either side. Both the teams exchanged one goal in the second last period. An Audi player converted a penalty shot while Scherb managed it from the
field effort. Audi was trailing by three goals, 6-3 with one chukka left to play.
In the final set of play, Scherb nailed a pair of goals of which one came on a penalty shot while other from the field. His team-mate, Lalor accounted for a single score to expand the lead up to six goals. Melissa Ganzi scored a goal for Audi in the last
moments of the game but to no avail. As the final horn sounded, Piaget rode away the field with a 9-4 win and clinched the title of the event.
Walter Scherb set the pace with five impressive goals, while his team-mates Lucas Lalor and Marc Ganzi scored three and one goal respectively. Lucas Lalor has been selected for MVP award while Lily, the Hector Galindo’s pony was named Best Playing Pony of
the tournament.
