Question:

Piano Certificate of Merit?

I am torn between a decision between staying with a private instructor that i have right now who is not in the California Piano Teachers Association (CPTA) or wahtever its called, so basically if i keep studying with him, then i can't get the cm.

or, i switch to a new teacher for piano so taht i can get cm.

normally, this wouldnt be such a hard decision, but in this case, the teacher taht i currently have, i have been studying with for 6+ years, and he is at least as qualified as the cm teachers are (he prolly is more). he said that he can write me a letter of recommendation, and it will have some weightage because he has attended/taught at prestigious universities for music.

which path is better?

  1. Getting a Piano Certificate of Merit you have to sit for an exam. If you think that your current teacher is able to help you achieve this, I see no reason for you to switch. If however you feel that you will be in a better position with a certified / qualified teacher, then switch. This decision is solely yours. I am not there so I cannot make the decision for you. Trust in your decision and stick with it.
