Question:

Piano Levels for Advanced Audition?

I have an advanced-level panel audition coming up next year, and I've chosen the following works:

Etude: Rachmaninoff Etudes-Tableaux Op.33 No.8

Baroque: Bach Sinfonia #15 in B Minor

Classical: Beethoven Sonata #30 1st Movement

Romantic: Faure Impromptu in F Minor

Comtemporary: Bartok Allegro Barbaro

Anyone know if these are of appropriate difficulty? If not, I would appreciate recommendations. Thank You!

  1. the Rachmaninoff piece- good choice

i wouldn't do a bach sinfonia, since many average pianists play them-I would recommend a difficult prelude and fugue, or a suite in French style- however you could probably so this sinfonia if you prefer it to other baroque pieces

instead of doing one movement of the beethoven sonata, try a couple, or the whole thing, that is if there is no time limit and you could learn them by next year

The romantic piece- Faure is not a romantic composer, since his music dates past the 20th century.  I would recommend a piece by Chopin , Mendelssohn, or Liszt

the bartok piece is a good choice as a contemporary selection

hope this helps and good luck!
