Question:

Piano Pieces for Advanced Audition?

I have an advanced-level panel audition coming up next year, and I've chosen the following works:

Etude: Rachmaninoff Etudes-Tableaux Op.33 No.8

Baroque: Bach Sinfonia #15 in B Minor

Classical: Beethoven Sonata #30 1st Movement

Romantic: Faure Impromptu in F Minor

Comtemporary: Bartok Allegro Barbaro

Anyone know if these are of appropriate difficulty? If not, I would appreciate recommendations. Thank You!

  1.      Any of them.  My own personal choice, because it is not very popular and seldom played, and might give you an edge up with the judges on your competitors because of it, is the Faure: a much neglected, and in my opinion unjustly so, composer.

If you want something that will really "wow" them, take a peek at Anton Rubinstein's "Variations on Yankee Doodle"(hold on to your hat).

Good luck with whatever you choose,

  2. Looks like a good program.  I agree about Faure...he's too neglected.  I heard Emile Naumouff perform the complete Nocturnes by Faure, and it was brilliant!

I might suggest a Bach toccata in place of the Sinfonia, but that's just my own personal taste.

You have a well-balanced and impressive program.  Good luck!
