I have been playing piano for 3 months and I really like it and i am on level 4. But then I saw this song for piano called hes a pirate (from pirates of the carribean) and I tried to play it and I couldn't play it at all. It made me think that if the lessons are all a waste of time. PLease help me! Should I quit????

  1. There is only one secret to playing piano: Practice, practice, PRACTICE! Don't ever give up! Try practicing it one bar or one line at a time. Remember this: Your fingers work with muscle memory. The more you repeat a part, the easier it gets for your brain and fingers to remember the specific rhythm. Practice, practice, PRACTICE!

    Good Luck!!

  2. You will most likely never be able to play everything that you can get music for.

I know there are different arrangements of "He's a Pirate" from level 2 to beyond a level count.

  3. No playing piano takes a lot of hard work. Just keep practicing you will get it.

  4. Don't quit, keep working at it! You may just need more time until you can play that song.

  5. Hi there !!!

ONLY three months??   Oh, no... please don't get frustrated yet!!   Three months is not long enough to play the way you hear more advanced pianists play.  You have not even scratched the surface.

You should NOT quit.   I currently have one little fellow that I have been teaching since he was 5.... he is now 10 and playing advanced music...   but remembering back to him at 5 + three months, he could barely play Hot Cross Buns without mistakes.  LOL.

How old are you and how long do you practice every day?   If you are in your teens or older,  you should at least be practicing 45 minutes 5X a week... and I said "AT LEAST" to be able to see improvements and growth as a piano player.

To be honest with you... and that is what you are asking for...  If you really don't plan to devote enough time to practicing..... that is the only reason you should quit...  you have heard the saying...  ''No pain, no gain''?   That goes for more than exercise and weight training.   You have to be willing to practice and set aside everyday to get better.   Perhaps you should try another teacher if you are not making the progress you think you are capable of.   Not all teachers teach the same way....  and you might benefit from changing to see if that might be the problem...

But the one thing everyone here is going to tell you....Practice, with focus and motivation and before long.... maybe in about 1 year,  you will be happier with the music you will be able to play.

    Thanks for reading.

I hope I was able to help you decide NOT to quit.  :))

  6. All songs are on a different level of difficulty. You won't become a pro at anything in no time at all. Keep at the lessons, and you'll be amazed at what songs you can play after you've gained some experience! Don't get discouraged, I didn't learn how to play well-known songs until atleast 6 months of practice and learning. It's totally worth it though, I really love playing the piano.
