Piano notes question?

If in the middle of a piece of music, you see a sharp or flat symbol next to a note, does that make the rest of the notes in that measure a sharp or flat unless noted with the natural symbol? Or does that only happen when the key signature is noted at the very beginning of the piece.

  1. It means the note by itself is sharp/flat only. The piece would have to be noted at the beginning.

  2. absolutly right!

  3. For the rest of the measure, that note is sharp. For example after an F#, all of the rest of the F's are F#'s.

A piece ALWAYS has a key signature If there is nothing there, than it is in C major (or it's relative minor, A minor) and everything is natural.

  4. You are correct... It is called an Accidental and it does make the rest of the notes in that measure sharp or flat.  Good for you :))
