Probably a stupid question, just checking. an 8va in the bass cleff means to go down right? I was originally a flute and sax player so I only read treble cleff and when i see an 8va, it means octave higher. Please help. oh by the way what's the sign for an octave lower? well please help, ANYTHING will help. ANYTHING! thankyou

  1. 8va in the bass clef mean go up as well as it does in the treble clef. there isn't really a common used sign for octave down, it's usally just written. good luck
