  1. HI Jake (again!) You can get any number of starter books from a music store, they'll show you the basics. But it's not going to be easy. If you really want to play, then you've got to put the work in somewhere and a good teacher will help you. But if you just can't, then find a book that suits you and work your way through it. Good luck.

  3. well... music theory (reading notes) can be very intricate and complicated if you don't have someone to teach you.  Definite check out some site online, but your best bet is to attend a music theory class at a small music school or performing arts high school.  I know you don't want a teacher, but you'll need a friend or someone to teach you b.c there are a lot more things on a music sheet than notes on a page.  So, good luck on becoming a great pianist =)
