Pick a number-double it-add 10 to it-divide it by 2-subtract your original number=5?

Try this equation in a room full of people, if everyone does the math right, they will all have the same answer. The answer will always be half of the # you tell them to add to it, even if it ends up being a fraction.

  1. Not really a question, but following your steps one by one....

    x

    2x

    2x + 10

    (2x + 10)/2 =  x + 5

    x + 5 - x = 5


  2. let the original number be x, let the number you add be y

    ((2x+y)/2)-x

    =(2x/2)+(y/2)-x

    =x+(y/2)-x

    =y/2
