  1. Saying that I'd suggest ...Wing chun or Aikido :)***

  2. Pugpaws2 pretty much hit the nail on the head. You can train "pillow fighting", and with the right instructor, get fit and learn self defense. Find the wrong instructor and you can wast a lot of time. The system you study really doesn't matter. Look at the schools in your area and "interview" the instructors at each one.

    Good luck.

  3. you should really consider kenpo karate.... it will teach self defense and give you a workout

  4. It is not the martial arts but the instructor that is important. Find the most knowledgeable instructor and study from him. You will achieve your goals.

Notice: I did not recommend a style. That is not as important as a good instructor. there are many out there but very, very few really knowledgeable ones.

  5. Grab your phone book and see if there are any Kenpo schools within your driving distance, no luck, call a local martial art supply if one is listed. Most M/A supply stores will know just whats around and may even have some good ideas as to good instructors.

  6. i would recommend jiu jujitsu i know u don't want to but if u watch some martial arts videos like bjj vs karate the bjj guy always win

  7. try capoeira, its fun! if only for one class, maybe try one class in several styles and see which one you like best?

  8. I will once again plug Krav Maga. I've been doing it for about 18 months now and it ticks all the boxes for me. If you want to focus on self defense and/or you're a little put off by the formalities of traditional martial arts and/or you have no desire to compete; you can't go far wrong with Krav.

The best advice though is try a few and pick the one you enjoyed the most. Sometimes I don't feel physically up to a Krav session but I always enjoy it and learn something every single time.

  9. american or mixed martials arts

  10. jiu jitsu because it is way better than all the other ones. i have experience with it. It helped me a lot with my self defense. Try it out
