i use to use the cheap ones from walmart my son didn't mind them. i hate using the throw away ones. i just spent 30 dollars on a case that will last a month. when i could of gotten two cloth ones that would last till our next kid. does any body know of a website that can help me pick out the right one for my son and our life style. i like the Gdiapers but the liners cost alot if not as much as buying huggies. help me please. i dont have too much money to spend but i do have some. if u use cloth diapers did u just have to buy them and test drive them first. i am thinking about getting the spraying thing that gos on your towel so spray then off when u changed them i like that i think it would help. and what is a good diaper pal to get that i can put them in and i know to use vinegar for germs and it is not hard on my son skin. and i know i will have to wash them every day. thanks so much. have a great day.

  1. I bought chinese prefolds and wraps to go over them.  I bought them on ebay actually through a diaper service in Oklahoma.  I think I paid no more than $175 for shipping, 36 cloth diapers and 10 different size wraps.  Additionally, I use the Snappis to hold the cloth closed and i also started using the biodegradable liners (they're like a hemp paper almost) that you can 'line' the cloth diaper with and when there's a bowel movement, you pick up the liner and you flush it down the toilet. No rinsing required of anything.  I pay about $6 for 100 and they're worth it.

I do like the Bummis (whisper wraps) wraps though, they're really good.  they wash nicely.

To clean your diapers, you should never use bleach actually nor any fabric softener.  I pre-soak my diapers in the machine before I wash them with a 1/2 cup of Borax which is a natural deodorizer and stain remover.  then I just wash them in hot water and put them in the dryer.

I have the Safety 1st diaper pail which uses regular bags - not specialty bags.  i do not use a wet pail, I use a dry pail.  My daughter is now 12 months old the diapers still fit her.  As a tip, I would suggest you start off with the Bummies because you can actually skip the size medium and go straight to large.  They'll be a little bulky at first, but they fit fine.  I'm pregnant with our next baby and all my diapers still look great and will do another baby.

Hope that helps and good luck!

  2. I reccomend bum genius 3.0

They grow with your kid so you dont need to buy 5 different sizes!

  3. I can recommend from experience gdiapers with cloth inserts. check out the website gdiapers.com. also under yahoo groups there is a gdiapers group that has tons of tip on even making inserts from stuff around the house and so on. They are the best!!!

  4. You actually don't have to wash everyday, you can go 2-3 days without washing...make a full load.

As for inserts, have you thought about making your own or just purchasing cheaper inserts (you don't have to use the same brand name as the diaper).

You can also buy different brands in a variety type pack. Some sites that sell a variety of brands allow you to buy a 'sampler pack' of diapers to help you find the right ones for your baby.

You may also want to consider Cloth diapers made by stay at home moms, or working from home moms...they are about 1/2 the cost of major brands and just as good.

  5. I agree about the bumGenius 3.0. They work wonderfully for us.

Also, Target has picked them up and are beginning to sell them in store. You no longer have to buy them via internet,so you can check them out before you buy.

However, with the bumGenius you shouldn't use vinegar. It's bad for the elastic. You can bleach them from time to time, however. Bleach is fine for bumGenius, if needed--you just can't do it too often.
