I want to go on a picnic with my boyfrien. What kind of food would you suggest making I dont want just sandwiches I want it to be kinda special. I'm not a great chef so any ideas would be helpful maybe how to make them too. Is it better to go in the afternoon, or evening?

  1. Wraps instead of sandwiches are good.  Or you could just get some fresh buns or bread, then bring

    -cold chicken

    -hard boiled eggs

    -pepperoni or kielbasa

-a couple types of Cheese w/some crackers

    -Veggies and dip

-Fruit - like apples, grapes, strawberries etc. (dip)

You can make a quick fruit dip by adding a teaspoon of jam to about a cup of sour cream. (strawberry or peach is good)

PS - Tapenade is a Provençal dish consisting of puréed or finely chopped olives, capers, and olive oil. Its name comes from the Provençal word for capers, tapéno. It is a popular food in the south of France, where it is generally eaten as an hors d’œuvre, spread on gourmet breads such as baguette or ciabatta. Sometimes it is also used to stuff fillets for a main course.

  2. I'd do early afternoon as long as it's cool where you are.  If you want it to be romantic, I do nice crackers with maybe some olive tapenade.  Cheese and fresh fruit.  You could also do some cold shrimp with cocktail sauce.  All of these items can be purchased at a good grocery store, such as Whole Foods.  It shouldn't require cooking, but it will look like you put thought and effort into it.  Good luck

  3. It's true, traditional tapenades consist of olives, however, you can also find alternatives, such as Artichokes tapenade.  Anyway, a picnic sounds romantic and fun.  Here are some ideas:

    Menu I:

    Rotisseried chicken (store bought)

    Baguette with sweet butter

    Gouda or havarti cheese

Sliced fresh tomatos with mozarella, kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, basil, olive oil and balsamic or red wine vinegar.

    Oatmeal raisin cookies

    Menu II:

    Oven fried chicken

    Red potato salad

    Fresh fruit salad

    Baguette with cheese

    Brownies

    Menu III:

Grilled london broil steak sandwiches with horseradish cream and grilled onions on sour dough rolls

Cucumber salad with rice wine vinegar and red onion

    Chips

    Macaroni Salad

Watermelon chunks drizzled with lime and honey

    Cupcakes

    Menu IV:

Crusty french rolls brushed with garlic infused olive oil and topped with grilled mushrooms, tomato slices, eggplant or grilled zuchinni, provolone

    Tuna pasta salad

    Cabbage slaw

    Lemon bars

  4. I'd say go somewhere around 4:00 pm.

you could have pigs in blankets, its easy just wrap cocktail weenies in half of a biscuit dough and bake

use a melon baller to make little balls of cantaloupe and stick tooth picks in them and take a sweet dipping sauce like chocolate, strawberry, some sweetened condensed milk all of those are great

also strawberries in sweet condensed milk are tasty!

remember to have honey mustard, ketchup, and anything else for the pigs in blankets

  5. Purchase a picnic basket for two (www.picnicfun.com) that includes plates, cups, utensils, and cloth napkins. Many picnic baskets also include a tablecloth, salt & pepper shakers, cutting board, cheese knife, cooler compartment and wine opener. Fully loaded picnic baskets make it much easier to plan any picnic because you don't have to hunt down all the individual items you need. Get a roll-up picnic blanket with waterproof backing so you and your date will be protected from moisture and insects. You'll need it to get comfortable during and after the meal. Plan the menu, focusing on simple, elegant food combinations such as antipasto platters (meats like turkey, roast beef, pastrami or salami...marinated vegetables, olives, various cheeses such as Camembert, Brie, Swiss, Cheddar, goat cheese, or fresh mozzarella. Other additions may be anchovies, or bruschetta (toasted bread)) with fresh fruit (apples, pears, strawberries, peaches and melons and grapes), a baguette and wine. Don't choose anything that will be messy, difficult to transport, or totally unromantic (like greasy hot wings). If you're opposed to the idea of cooking or want to really play it safe, call your favorite restaurant and order your favorite meals to go. Scope out the perfect setting. Choose a place with a romantic ambiance, like the beach at sunset or a mountain overlook. Some other ideas include rooftop terraces, lakeside pavilions or a place that's special to the two of you. Make sure there won't be issues with traffic, bugs or other potential spoilers. Bring along some romantic extras like flowers, candles and a mix CD of your favorite love songs to play from the car stereo.

Tapenade is a dish made off pureed or finely chopped olives, capers, and olive oil. You eat it spread on gourmet breads such as baguette or ciabatta.

    sausage rolls

    pork pies

    french bread
