Question:

Picnic at 3 pm?

2 weeks from now, we are having a graduation picnic around 3 pm. It's not really a meal time...so I'm unsure of what to serve.

If we had finger sandwiches, fruit skewers, salad and cake is that good enough, or am I missing some key picnic ingredient?

  1. That's a hateful time to have to serve! But I'd skip salad, instead have cheese/meat rollups or even deviled eggs, and salted nuts. Unless your party is limited to aunts and grannies, there will be a few people who want heavier calories - which means meat and cheese.

  2. Chips! (and drinks of course)

  3. Lemonade, veggie tray, chips, pasta salad

  4. When I was growing up, I always looked forward to my mother's picnic lunches.  Cold country fried chicken, hard boiled eggs with salt and pepper, homemade potato salad, and whole fresh fruit and spice cake (no icing) for dessert -.  Lemonade for the kids and ice cold beer for the adults.

(Make sure you have a good cooler and keep your food chilled properly.)
