Does anyone know of a children's picture book that uses symbolism?

  1. The Wretched Stone, by Chris Van Allsburg.  Read it and think of television.

    Or, of course, the fairy tales.

    Dr Seuss -- The Sneetches

    You might want to look at some William Steig, too, but I'm not sure.


  2. Masquerade by Kit Williams was a picture book that used gorgeous paintings as clues for a real life treasure hunt. (The prize was buried somewhere in the UK, can't remember exactly, but it was an 18-karat hare statue, I believe.)

    Wikipedia it, if it seems like it matches your criteria. The paintings were extremely clever and hard puzzles, so hopefully it helps.
