Question:

Picture Quality Help with the Samsung LN52A650?

I just bought the Samsung LN52A650 last night, I am not set up to receive an HD signal yet but my picture quality on a normal RCA connect is terrible. Currently the picture is very pixelated and grainy. Am I stuck with a terrible picture until I pay for HD channels? How do I improve the quality of a non-HD signal on a LCD TV?

  1. Unfortunately, yes, you are stuck with this crappy picture.  A standard definition signal does not have the data needed to adequately fill a large high-definition screen.  Now your tv is scaling the image to 1080p, this is causing the pixelation and graininess that you are talking about.  A high-definition image requires a high-definition signal.

You can receive your local stations in high-definition, via an antenna.
