Picture comes on and off

picture comes on and off and sometimes i cannot get a piture at all) i have a brand new lcd tv and a new hdmi cable i thought it might be the cable so i tried av and still it did the same thing. also i am not getting a sony logo screen when i turn it on! when it plays it plays fine never had a problem with it before and it has not been over used. very worried please reply soon thanks
