Hello fellas! I am currently in my mid-20's and would like help shortening my back swing. This picture does not portray my swing at its longest unfortunatley. So I slightly drew what it would look like. Its a pitiful picture, but it shows how far i get back. Thanks for the help! Its much appreciated.

  1. From what I can see in the photo - you are in a pretty good position.  You don't really want to cut back on shoulder turn.  You might try as a swing thought that you are going to turn your shoulder ninety degrees but not turn your hips at all.  It is almost impossible to do - but it will cut down on the hip turn thus shortening the swing a little and usually creates a bit more torque and power as you uncoil the swing.

  2. really it all depends on what club that is get some info on what club that is and i'll get back to you

  3. nice face

  4. If you are hitting the ball well, I don't see a reason to shorten it up much, but If you want to here is how to do it.

If you are right handed, keep a towel under your right arm on your backswing, keep it there on your dowswing, and it can fall out in the follow through. Only do this while you are practicing, and when you come out onto the course you should have a tight, repetitive swing. It will help if you think about keeping your right elbow close to your body too. When it is too far away it's called a "flying elbow" and can produce lots on inconsistencies in the swing.

  5. Drill:

c**k your wrists back without moving your body to be parallel to the floor and on your toe line. Then turn your shoulders full. Thats how big your backswing should be

    practice that drill

  6. Draw back to where it feels comfortable. Keep your left arm straight and keep a smooth hip turn back and forward. Otherwise your holding position is good. I assume you go to far back because of momentum. Slow down and then try again, I hope this helps

  7. Golfergirl,

Wow....that is a very upright swing you have there! Kind of reminds me of Jack Nicklaus! I hope you weren't hitting a ball or taking divots out of the living room carpet ;)

I too have a problem with my backswing dipping below parallel. I tend to get a bit wild, especially with the driver once my swing gets too long.

It's a pretty easy fix for me. Basically I take my backswing and try to feel like the thumb on my left hand is pointing straight up at the sky, once I feel I've reached this point I stop my swing and start back down.

The beautiful thing (for me anyway) is when I think I'm at this point, which means the club should be pointing straight up (12 o'clock), the club is actually just short of parallel, so it's right where I want it.

Give that a try a few times and see how it works...

    Good Luck!

  8. I had been taught to place a towel under my right arm, and make sure that it is held there throughout my swing. It was meant to correct my "inside-out" swing, but I believe that it also helps in keeping my back swing controlled.

  9. do half swings before each shot
