This is common right? It's about 5 years old and pretty big, I don't want to get rid of it. Does anyone know what it is and how much it is to fix. It's too early here to start calling repair shops. Thanks.

  1. Well i hate to say it but we have become a throw away society. As cheap as picture tube style TVs are these days you are better off just buying a new one. The small time TV repair shop has been put out of business years ago. But of course with the new HD tvs coming out that might change things due to their cost.

Call some repair shops and see what they say. Most of them want  money the second you come in the door with it regardless if they fix it or not-just a fee for looking at it.

  2. that happend to me, then i found out my cousin put a magnet on the side of the t.v.

  3. It's a capacitor that needs changing - happened to mine.

  4. It might be the scart lead in the back of it is out maybe..

Or its just old, if you hit the top of the t.v it should go back to the normal colour.

    really try it.

  5. Actually it is the green color gun that is in the yoke of the picture tube...There is a machine called a "rejuvinator" that they attach to the prongs on the back of a picture tube  and cleans the "color guns " off...The guns build up tarnish and electrical deposits on them..each prong on the back of a tube that the little ceramic fixture fits over is a different color "gun" that controls the colors..the rejuvinator electrically cleans these guns off from within the picture tube...Looks like a little lightening storm going off inside the tube..now days It is A disposable world though and you see less and less television shops...My friend owned a shop 20 years ago and have seen him do this many times..it cost about 150.00 dollars then way back before television sets were so cheap..it was an appliance you kept for years and was cheaper to repair..that isn't necessarily the case now days...to take one to a shop and have rejuvinated would probaly cost 300.00 bucks now..when a television can be purchased new for less than that..
