  1. xD i had that problem with some characters.

when they're like described as breathtakingly beautiful.

    or like shockingly scary.

i think when an author describes a character.

she can't give out detail because it leaves you to imagine.

like edward; it'd be kind of stupid to figure out how he actually looks.

because everyone interprets him differently and i think you're supposed to kind of figure out for yourself how gorgeous he is, you know?

  2. Characters in stories are suppose totally different from anything or anyone real or in literature already in my opinion.  You may want to possibly draw inspiration from someone, but not to make an almost exact replica.  Think about what your story is about, what was in the characters past, and what role does this character have, and what they will do in the story.  What are their personality traits?  Are they dark? Happy? Mysterious? Down to earth?  Maybe if you like making your characters look like someone, take part of their features and then mix it with another persons.  As for a characters hair or clothing again think about who they are, where they are, and when this story takes place.  When I draw the characters clothing and I need help I look in fashion magazines.  When I see something that would fit in with the character in question (ex. a jacket), I mix in my own personal style, the characters attitude, and I change parts of the design and what color it is.  Also if I need help with facial features especially with my male characters, which I'm not very good at drawing, I look at models in magazines which helps me a lot.  I don't care who they are or how famous they are I just find something interesting about them and draw.  Hope that helps you!

  3. Why do you need pictures?

Description is overrated. No one is going to picture the same thing you see when they're reading. That's the beauty of writing - everyone puts their own interpretation on it.

I've seen stories where they didn't tell you more than a character's name let alone hair color, eye color, height, weight, etc. Focusing too much on what characters look like takes away from story and is more distracting than helpful.

As both an English major and a moderator at a fanfiction site, I recommend you please stay away from those big paragraphs of description (She had deep blue eyes and stood at 5'7" and a half with blonde hair down to her shoulders...). It's boring and very amateur.

The important part is the character's personality. If it doesn't describe their personality, it isn't necessary. If you have a character who is intelligent, shy, and kind, then you can have the narrator comment on her slender, delicate fingers. Or a person into sports may have bulky, calloused hands. See how that kind of reflects the personality of the character?

    Anything else is unnecessary.

  4. describe the charators. i'll try to help! if you can't find real people to model them after, let your creativity flow!

  5. Getting in-depth in a character's appearance is often vain and unnecessary. You want to give the reader an idea of what they look like, but not down to the very birthmark. Their appearance, is of course, relatively unimportant to most plots.

Also, when trying to come up with what a character will look like, try to be a bit more bold and avoid the cliche, "she had long, silky black hair and large blue eyes that were as deep as the ocean." It's pointless, uncreative, and irrelevant to the plot.

I.e. try and give them a NOTABLE appearance.

  6. I usually look at clothes magazines. They help. JC Penny clothes magazines are the best. You can get men, women, and kids and babies.

  7. I think you need to work on describing your characters without using someone else's picture. Can't you visualize your characters in your mind?
