Is it illegal to take pictures of children in a child care facility.

I was informed while takeing a picture of my niece with some friends in her preschool class that it was illegal to take photo's of other children.

If anyone knows this as fact or not please respond and could you please give me some resources.

  1. We have written permission from our parents to take pictures and to use them for advertisement and on the website.   Ask if you are not sure about taking pics with other children in them.  I don't worry about it but I'm also in a very small town.  Just ask and I'm sure you'll get your answer there.

  2. You need to have the permission of the childs parents before taking pictures. It totally sucks, but it has to do with privacy rights.

  3. You should ask the preschool.Give the preschool copies of photos of the other children to give to parents. They may appreciate the photos as they are not always there. At more and more functions you are not allowed to photograph children. It probably is as people are worried about pedophiles and people the pictures on the internet. That sadly is the world we live in.

  4. I work at a childcare, and even though I'm not allowed to take pictures of the children and their classmates (because it is illegal).  The parents/family are.  However, checking with the center is the best idea.  Just to be on the safe side.
