Pidgeon keeping. Why would people do this?

Well some people could keep them for pets, i have heard of homing pigeon raceing, i have seen them relased at a wedding or two, sometimes they are in movies (they may be stunt pigeon!! (don't really know about that)) the army used to use them to carry messages from behind enimy lines (Valient anyone? a movie), the thrill in breeding different colours or patterns in the birds, and some keep them for food. It is also known as squab. Usually found in reallly fancy resturants. Looks like a tiny chicken.

for pets?  for homing pidgeon races?  because people are spies and they want to send messages to each other or attach tiny cameras to the pidgeons' legs to take pictures of top-secret facilities?

My next door neighbour does... goodness only knows why!!!  And they live forever too, she has them left over from when her husband died and that was about twelve years ago!  Maybe she likes the coo?

Probably because they love birds and can spell their names - like "pigeon" for instance.

as pets??

i rescued baby pigeons and they lived in my avory for a bit...

but i released them when they got big enough

Why not?  You could ask the same question for any other types of pets.  Some people keep dogs, some keep pigeons...

It's "Pigeon" not "Pidgeon" for a start. And like someone said, because they like birds. It's no different to any other pet - you keep it because you want to.
