i've pierced my ears myself before, and they only hurt for a short amount of time. ( there was no stinging, it hardly hurt at all.) yesterday i just pierced my upper ear but it was still the fleshy part and there was no cartilage there. however, now, my ear feels like it is stinging in that one spot, and it is very tender to touch. i've used peroxide to clean it, but could it be infected? should i take the earring out? is this normal?

  1. Stop using the peroxide, it's irritating the new piercing. The APP have a great page on appropriate aftercare: http://safepiercing.org/bodyAftercare.ht...

  2. If you just did it, wait a couple of days.  If the stinging doesn't go away you might have an infection and need to let it close up.

  3. I'd give it another day or two to see what happens. If it gets worse, I'd take the earring out because you wouldn't want it to get infected! Since you pierced a different part of your ear this time, it might just be reacting differently which would explain the tenderness.

  4. take it out! it shouldnt do that

  5. Take the earring out immediately and consult your doctor.

Never, ever pierce yourself.  There are some very ugly and painful infections that you can give yourself.  You should only ever get pierced by a professional.

You're not stupid, this is a mistake that many people make.  I hope you're okay and just please don't do it again!
