Question:

Piercing my ear - I'm scared!?

I want to pierce my ear, by myself. I already have two holes but I want a third one. I'm really chicken to pierce myself. =[ If I put ice on the part I want to pierce how long would I hold it there until it gets numb?

Any advice?

And please don't tell me to get a professional to do it. It's my ear. And I want to do it.

  1. You can buy an earring piercer at any general store, and that might be easier. Just sit in front of the mirror and do it. Make sure to mark a dot with a marker on the spot you want it and just hold the ice there until you can barely feel it.

  2. have professional do it because one of my friends did it and they riped there ear because they moved just a little.

  3. There's no need for numbing the lobe to pierce it, you minus well get it done by a professional that uses the right sterlized equippment since its quick & painless. Doing it yourself piercings are never good, if your scared of piercing it yourself than save yourself the trouble of a bad infection and don't do it than. I know this is not what you wanted to here...oh well.

  4. whatever your piercing your ear with boil it in water and then pierce it . to numb the pain ice it for 5 minits. and then slam it in . after piervcing it clean it!! i pierced two holes in my upper ear and three hole on my ear lobes and it had no infections.

  5. id hold ice there for 5 minutes

  6. I pierced my own ear and it isn't that hard. Just hold the ice there till its cold. I used a safety pin. and that worked well. Good luck !

  7. Your fear should be an indication that you're not prepared to pierce yourself.  Don't be stupid.  Get it done right.

  8. it depends where in your ear you want the piercing. but i mean ears usually heal for about 6 weeks or so. And if you want a piercing just go for it! iIf you start to think you'll chicken out.

    Good Luck =]

  9. i have 6 ear percings on my ear and i do it with a needle by myself,no ice or any of that just its better to do it real fast cause doing it slow will suck. make sure the needle or whatever you use is as big as the earring cause then i wont fit through(happen to me) and leave the needle in for a bit(hour or so) cause it will hurt to take it out. clean it when you wake up and before bed cause that will be a ***** later on.

  10. Why not get a friend to do it, they'll be able to see better and get a better angle than you will yourself.

But if you want to numb it just hold ice (or an ice pack is actually better) until you can't feel it if you pinch it.  Or you can buy a freezing spray that works really well.

Make sure the needle you use and the earring you put in is sterile.

DO NOT FLINCH as you push the needle through - that will be a disaster.

    Good luck!

  11. Ohhhh my friend did this at school- i thought she was mad to be doing it. basically, if you hold ice on your ear, you're fingers may go numb too, so that's not a great option. What my friend did was:

take a pin, or a needle or whatever. decide where you want the hole and have an earring on stand-by. poke around for a while, and when the ear gets hot, then use ice. as there is a more sudden change in temp, it's more likely to become numb faster. when it is, go in for the kill (not literally, you dont want to die now, do you?). use the pin to go in and leave it there for a moment, and keep rubbing ice over it if it gets sore. once left for a minute, take the earring (prefrabably long stemmed) and prepare for the switch. pull out the pin gently, but not slowly. pull out the ear, stretching it out so the hole is easier to find and poke through the pole. leave on with out backs for a while so any swelling can go down. use ice sufficiantly. put on backs when ready (:

  12. I will tell you anyway...GET IT DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL.

I'm assuming you will be piercing it w/ a sewing needle or something of that nature? That will only shove the skin aside, instead of removing it like a professional hollow needle does. This will create many problems, the most common being a nasty, pus filled infection. No matter what you do to 'sterilize' the needle (burn, boil, etc.) it will NEVER be as clean as it should be. The only way to completely clean something is w/ an autoclave, which is IN A PROFESSIONAL SHOP.

So please, don't subject yourself to a nasty infection because you didn't want to pay the money to get it done professionally.
