Okay I want to switch out my cartilage posts (that they were pierced with) for new earrings. But I don't know what size. It was pierced with a gun (I know thats bad). She asked me if I wanted the thicker or thinner posts (she said the thinner posts were used to pierce babies)

Please anyone know what size earring I should put in?

Also I've heard people say wait 3 weeks, wait a year, wait 6 months. How long did you wait?

  1. it was probably pierced with 18 gauge. you need to stick with that size. upon initial piercing of cartilage do not remove for 8-12 weeks. preferably 12 weeks. b/c the cartilage is a type of bone, it takes longer to heal. you need to leave a post in that hole for at least a year or it will close up and it closes fast. you can change out after 12 weeks but don't leave out for more than a few minutes. mine closed up after 1/2 hour with no hope of pushing that earring through. go to a professional piercer (tat/piercing shop) and have someone look at it. they'll help you get done what you need and give you an idea of what size will work for you.

  2. yes

  3. Wait 6 weeks and use a normal sized earring.

  4. wait at least six weeks. It is probably a 18 or 16 gauge.
