  1. Tattoos and piercings have been around for thousands of years, it's no fad, just people are getting more tolerant towards it.

  2. You shouldn't be getting tattoos because they're more popular nowadays. I see too many people that are getting them because other people have them. People have been getting tattooed for thousands of years, and if it's your style and you want them then get it for the right reasons so you won't be disappointed years from now.

  3. I believe that some tattoos and piercings are fads, like tribal bands and monroe piercings. But body modification has been going on for thousands of year and I don't think it's going to stop anytime soon.

  4. Tattoos and piercings have been around for thousands of years... I don't think it's going to go out of style in your lifetime. But there are a few tattoos lately that are pretty popular and I think those are fads like the cluster of stars and sparrows on girls. At least around here that's REALLY popular and annoying. Just don't get something that you know 10000 other people in your city have too. And think about placement. Is getting a lower back tattoo a fad? Your choice.

Edit: I didn't copy that girl above me, by the way...

  5. Tattoos and piercings have been around for thousands of years. The 'Ice Man' had something like 52 tattoos and piercings and his body was dated at about 5,300 years old. The Pazyrak Mummy has elaborate tattoos, and his forearm skin is preserved with some beautiful tattoos on it and it is something like 2,400 years old.

So, yeah, at different times it's a fad, but it doesn't matter, because unlike clothing styles, you wear them for life, .. even after the 'fad' has come and gone, and come and gone again,... and WILL come and go some more.
